>> Food is Kid Stuff, TOO!
WELCOME to the Kansas City Food Circle website. In operation for over 12 years, ours is an all-volunteer, grassroots organization created to promote the development of a permanently sustainable local food system (permaculture). We serve the greater Kansas City area (eaters and growers in Missouri, Kansas, and reaching out to nearby communities in Nebraska and Iowa) providing an alternative to the conventional agricultural system, which is dependent on practices that are neither good for our personal health nor for the health of the living world we are part of. Most of our work centers on making connections between area growers who meet our organic produce or free-range animal standards and people who want to eat delicious, nutritious, locally-grown food.
MISSION STATEMENT: The Kansas City Food Circle is building a community food system in which farmers, eaters, chefs, and grocers know and trust each other. Our network enables us to share our knowledge and experience while we work together promoting the benefits of locally-grown organic and free-range foods. We cooperate in nourishing each other today while seeking to sustain the ability of future generations to nourish themselves through healthy farming practices.
OUR 9th ANNUAL FARMERS EXHIBITION, KC Food Circle Expo 2007, was held on Saturday, March 24th, and by all accounts it was a huge success! We are still assessing visitor logs, but current estimates indicate that attendance at this single event was more than twice that of our double-expo last year.
We offer our warmest thanks to all of you who attended, and we'd like to encourage you to mark your calendars for more local food/sus-ag events this season - if you find anything missing from our public calendars, please let us know.
Special thanks and congratulations go out to our sponsors and everyone who helped to fund, organize and promote the event. It wouldn't have happened without you. If you missed the expo, we have reviews posted by several fans, and our Expo photo albums have been posted via Picasa.

- Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a unique partnership between eaters and farmers. Members normally join a CSA at the beginning of the calendar year, reserving a spot and paying for at least part of the season up front. This helps to provide a guaranteed market and income to the farmer... (CLICK for more...)
- Become a Food Circle member, and reap the benefits! Non-members frequently ask, "What do I get for my Food Circle membership?" The answer is a little *and* a lot. The Food Circle doesn't have a glossy magazine, monthly meetings, or monthly mailings. We don't ask you to give extra contributions. That's a little.... (CLICK for more...)
- NEW AND IMPROVED: The KCFC Harvest Hotline is easier to use! Farmers post the latest available harvest info so buyers can make a direct connection to arrange for pickup or delivery - see samples and current offerings on our bulletin board. Most often, Harvest Hotline postings alert eaters to immediately-available perishable goods, so don't dawdle too long, or you may miss out...
- The Kansas City Food Circle UPDATE - published by our coordinating committee, the KCFC UPDATE newsletter will contain sage advice, timely articles and commentary about events and issues which should concern us all.
